Some who seek psychotherapy may have little idea of what to expect and may therefore be at a disadvantage. This information is intended to give you some idea of what to expect and thereby improve the effectiveness of your therapy.

Therapy should help to ease difficulties you may be having in your relationships and other areas of your life by providing you with a clearer understanding of how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are either helping or hindering you. Therapy supports you in moving through difficulties so you may begin to feel better about yourself and realize your full potential, while accepting realistic limitations.

In addition to traditional psychotherapy, Julie is trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Post Induction Therapy, and EEG Neurofeedback. These practices are aimed at relieving the symptoms of trauma, which may range from the inability to regulate emotions, such as depression and anxiety, to nightmares and flashbacks. Julie will be happy to answer any questions you have about these treatments.

The number, frequency, and length of appointments will be determined by your situation. Many therapists consider a therapeutic hour to be 45 to 50 minutes. Julie’s fee is based on a 55-minute hour. You are responsible for paying your agreed-upon fee at the beginning of each session, unless other arrangements have been made beforehand. You may pay with cash (please bring the exact amount), check, or credit card.
If you are unable to keep an appointment, an attempt will be made to reschedule within the same week. Because your appointment time is reserved especially for you, you will be responsible for the full fee for any missed sessions unless you give notice of cancellation at least 48 hours in advance.

You may feel the need to contact your therapist by phone between sessions. Generally speaking, if phone calls last 5 minutes or less, there is no charge. Calls lasting longer than 5 minutes may be charged $4 per minute. The fee for a scheduled phone session is the same as your agreed-upon office fee.

Congratulations on having the courage to take this step towards improving the quality of your life.
